Recommended order

The shortest path from install doubt to working proof

Most support questions happen before the first successful rule. This is the cleanest sequence to remove that friction.

1. Download and launch

Move the app to Applications, open it once, and let macOS register InputSwitcher correctly before checking permissions or rules.

2. Grant the required permission

Enable Accessibility so InputSwitcher can detect the active app and switch input source automatically.

3. Create the first proof rule

Assign English to a coding app or browser and your native language to a chat or writing app, then switch between them to verify the workflow.

4. Escalate only if your workflow outgrows the free setup

If the first rules work but 3 app slots, visibility, or backup control become limiting, then move to features or pricing for the next decision.

🚀

Getting Started

How do I install InputSwitcher?
Download the .zip file from our website, extract it, and drag InputSwitcher.app to your Applications folder. Double-click to launch. On first run, you'll be guided through granting necessary permissions.
How do I grant Accessibility permissions?
Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility, then find InputSwitcher in the list and toggle it ON. If you don't see it, click the '+' button and add it manually from your Applications folder. You may need to restart the app after granting permissions.
Why does InputSwitcher need Accessibility permissions?
Accessibility permissions are required by macOS for any app that needs to detect which window is active and to switch input sources programmatically. InputSwitcher only uses these permissions for its core functionality and does not access any content within your applications.
How do I create my first rule?
Click the InputSwitcher icon in the menu bar → Settings → Rule Management → Click the '+' button → Select an app from the list → Choose your preferred input source → Click Save. The rule will take effect immediately.

Troubleshooting

Why isn't InputSwitcher switching for a specific app?
Several reasons can cause this: 1) Make sure you've added a rule for that app in Settings > Rule Management. 2) The app might be sandboxed with a different bundle ID — try removing and re-adding the rule. 3) Some apps (like Electron apps) may report different window info. 4) Ensure InputSwitcher has Accessibility permissions enabled.
InputSwitcher doesn't appear in my menu bar
First, check if the app is running in Activity Monitor. If not, try launching it again. If you have many menu bar apps, InputSwitcher's icon might be hidden — try closing some menu bar apps or use Bartender/Hidden Bar to manage them. You can also check System Settings > Control Center to see if it's been hidden.
The visual indicator doesn't appear when switching
Make sure the Visual Indicator feature is enabled in Settings (Pro feature). Also, check that you haven't disabled the overlay in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording. The indicator requires screen overlay permissions on newer macOS versions.
Input source keeps reverting to the wrong language
This might be caused by: 1) A conflicting system setting — check System Settings > Keyboard > Input Sources and disable 'Automatically switch to a document's input source'. 2) Another input method app conflicting with InputSwitcher. 3) The Fallback Input Source setting in InputSwitcher — check Settings > General.
InputSwitcher stopped working after a macOS update
macOS updates sometimes reset privacy permissions. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility, remove InputSwitcher from the list, then add it again. Restart the app after doing this.

Pro Features

How do I upgrade to Pro?
Open InputSwitcher Settings and click on the 'Pro Exclusive' tab. You can purchase a license directly from there, or visit our website. After purchase, you'll receive a license key by email — enter it in the 'License' tab to activate.
Can I use my Pro license on multiple Macs?
Yes! Each Pro license can be activated on up to 3 devices owned by you. Use the Import/Export feature to easily transfer your rules between Macs.
I lost my license key. How do I recover it?
Email support@inputswitcher.com with the email address you used for purchase. We'll look up your order and resend the license key within 24 hours.
What's included in Pro?
Pro includes: Launch at Login, Visual Indicator, Sound Effects, Global Hotkey (⌘⌥P), Menu Bar Flag display, and Rules Import/Export. Free users get up to 3 rules plus the core switching functionality.
Do I need to pay for updates?
Your Pro license includes all updates for the current major version (e.g., all 1.x updates). Major version upgrades (like 2.0) may have an optional upgrade fee, with discounts for existing Pro users.
Why does InputSwitcher ask for Keychain access?
InputSwitcher uses macOS Keychain to securely store your license key, so you don't need to re-enter it after reinstalling the app. This is Apple's recommended way to store sensitive data. We never access any other data in your Keychain. Simply click 'Always Allow' to avoid this prompt in the future.

Rules & Configuration

How do I set a fallback input source?
Go to Settings > General > Fallback Input Source. Choose the input source you want to use when switching to apps that don't have a specific rule. This is useful as a default for most of your apps.
Can I import/export my rules?
Yes, this is a Pro feature. Go to Settings > Rule Management, click the Export button to save your rules as a JSON file. On another Mac, use the Import button to restore them.
Does InputSwitcher work with all input sources?
Yes! InputSwitcher works with any input source installed on your Mac, including Apple's built-in keyboards, third-party input methods like Sogou, RIME, Google Japanese Input, and more.
How do I delete a rule?
Go to Settings > Rule Management, find the rule you want to delete, and click the trash icon or swipe left (on trackpad) to delete it.
💳
